It is Time to Upgrade to Windows 11
I’ve been around long enough to think that Windows 11 would be Microsoft’s prepeat junk. (Prepeat is not a word, I just made it up. It means repeating prerelease, it could be a noun, verb, or adjective.) Microsoft, historically has released a junk OS (operating system) and then a good OS. When Microsoft released Windows 11 in 2021, I said that it was the junk OS, and told friends, family, and customers to wait until Windows 12. I kept telling people that for three years, and I went out of my way to help people avoid Windows 11. I make no apologies, but it is now time to upgrade to Windows 11.
I really believe that Microsoft had full intentions of a “Windows 12”, but changed course when Chat GPT and Copilot, and other A.I. tools changed our world. Instead of releasing an OS without Copilot built into its core, what the next Windows will have, they doubled down on Windows 11, making me eat my words.
Not only have they doubled down on Windows 11, Microsoft is ending Windows 10. As of October 2025, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10, except for customers who pay extra. Windows 10 will no longer be suitable for use due to potential security issues that will arise and will not be fixed. Microsoft is using their heavy hand to force Windows 11 upon us. I’m being dramatic.
Windows 11 is actually pretty good now. Its first days were dreadful, and I hated the new Start menu and task bar, and settings. I still like how those things work in Windows 10 better, but I’ve gotten used to Windows 11, and it is a better OS. It is smarter and faster and will have Microsoft’s full support until 2031, or longer.
If your computer is running Windows 10, it’s time to upgrade your OS or buy a new computer with Windows 11. Some older computers are not compatible with Windows 11. This is how to know if you should buy a new computer or upgrade the one you have:
If you need to buy a new computer, here’s a good place to get started. If you use Microsoft 365 for business, do yourself a favor and buy a Windows 11 computer with Windows 11 Pro, it will make your technical life better.
Word on the street is that Microsoft will provide an option, closer to October that will allow computer owners to pay a onetime fee for an additional year of security patches. How this will work, I do not know. I’ve already upgrade my laptop to Windows 11, I will soon be upgrading my desktop to Windows 11.
If you are a current customer of Pluto Micro and have Windows 10 computers in production, we will be sending out specific recommendations for your company. Watch for that in May.
